| The Washington, DC suburbs are
home to some of the most affluent, well educated
and ethnically diverse newspaper readers in the
country. With some of the fastest population growth
in America bringing in an influx of thousands
of new residents each year, our suburbs have three
of the top ten fastest growing and three of the
top ten wealthiest counties in America. Our suburbs
are red hot.
Growth In Our Suburbs
While according to an April 2007 US Census report
over 494,000 additional residents have made the
Washington, DC area home since year 2000, demographic
projections show an actual decrease in the population
of Washington, DC itself. So where are all these
new residents living? Our suburbs.
Loudoun, Prince William and Stafford counties
in VA make the list of the fastest growing counties
in America with over 56%, 28% and 26% growth respectively.
Loudoun County tops the list nationwide.
Montgomery and prince George’s counties
in Maryland experienced 10% and 9.3% growth respectively,
while Fairfax County, VA grew by over 9%.
Affluence In Our Suburbs
According to Belden Research, our suburban newspaper
readers actually have a higher median income than
the nation’s wealthiest county residents,
coming in at $93,500 per year. Fairfax and Prince
William counties in Virginia along with Montgomery
County, MD have three of the top ten spots as
wealthiest counties in America.
Our Newspaper Readers In The
Suburbs
The demographics for suburban Washington, DC are
impressive enough. But sample the demos of actual
suburban newspaper readers, and the numbers are
off the charts.
Sample info about our readers:
53% are college graduates; media household income
$93,500; 82% are home owners; 44% have children
at home under age 18; 66% prefer weekend shopping
days of Friday and Saturday, and 38% are minorities.
